The Viva Vlog (a.k.a. Did I pass my PhD?)
Переглядів 3663 місяці тому
Now that I've submitted my PhD thesis, I need to prepare for and then sit my PhD viva - the 'spoken exam' / 'final boss' of the PhD that determines whether I've passed and whether I get to finally call myself 'Dr Liam'. In this vlog, I record how I went about preparing for my viva, chronicle the ups and downs along the way, and conclude with the viva itself: do I pass or not? There's only one w...

I've submitted my PhD thesis! That means I should be able to call myself 'Dr Liam' now, right? Right? Not quite! In this video, I discuss the PhD submission process, what my thesis is actually about, and what the next - and hopefully final - steps are. these videos are actually saving my mocks thank you so much
love this greg thanks.
I just remember going out for drives late at night and my parts of town that are known for nightlife were completely abandoned and shut down, it really felt like the apocalypse during that time
thanks for the analysis really helpful
I’ve been using your videos for acts 1-3 and I surprisingly got 100 on both of my tests!! extremely helpful
doing my mocks my teacher recommended this and yk what its pretty good
👑
why do you keep saying mr birling is MIDDLE CLASS he is clearly upper
thanks!
Great video; you've helped so many people.....proud of you !
Hi thanks for the videos, can you please link the analysis to bigger ideas and themes that we can put into our essays

Good luck!!!
@@DystopiaJunkie went surprising well for a test I didn't find out I was doing till midnight the night before. I'm guessing I'll get a 70% to 85% on it.
thank you michael from vsauce 2.0 ive got mocks in a week from when this comment has been made and this has helped me
THANK YOU
Please annotate all scenes because im suffering out here😢
Thank you for this video your voice is amazing because usually my teacher has a mid voice but not good enough yours is perfect I wish you were my teacher
Are you doing tutoring at all??
Thank you very much, amazing video
because of all the help you gave me in smashing my lit exam iA, I watched this whole video and every single advert for you to gain the maximum amount in monetisation, oh and I also liked and commented. Least I could do.👍
Ahahaha that's very generous of you, as this is basically a (not massively entertaining) movie 😂 glad to hear the content has helped you out - good luck with the rest of your exams!! 💪
Paper 2 incoming
thank u so much for ur hardwork 🙏lifesaver with these in-depth vids
These videos are really helpful. Maybe with the 'I'm rather more - upset' quote the dashes could also suggest hesitation as he may not be telling the truth/ is faking his distress in order to get away.
The inspector has no societal or economic class that he conforms to, choosing explicitly to distance himself from class based ideals that the birlings have (the whole I don’t play golf thing) because priestly isn’t just criticising the upper classes, he is advocating for a classless society. Also the idea that Inspector goole sounds like a ghost furthers this idea, as if the inspector is a ghost, in the afterlife there is no class driven society, only alike souls. Similar to ideas in a Christmas carol
I have mine tomorrow 😬
Gooooooooood luck!
Could you argue that the inspector is above upper class, as if he is the “ghoul” that brings judgement over the higher classes?
That's a cool idea, but "above" might be a bit of a push. Him wearing a "plain darkish suit" suggests he isn't the Birlings' equal in terms of wealth, let alone their superior, while him being in a skilled professional job probably puts him below Mr Birling (business owner). You could maybe say that he's a "ghoul" that sits OUTSIDE of class boundaries, though, and serves to remind the audience that nobody is "above the law".
@@DystopiaJunkie thank you 🙏🙏very helpful
hes still active in comments???
i m c o o k e d
like the “she appealed to your organization for help” also imply that she has got her fight back for the sake of her child implying she’s caring, and a good mother
Very useful! Although if you could add in the Act and Scene with the quotes it would be useful :)
There arent any scenes in AIC, only the 3 acts
Says 5he page under the quote
how could i link the aristotle's unities to everyone's character?
I don't think it does link to the characters, to be honest! It's more about the play's form and structure than anything else.
@@DystopiaJunkie so if one of the questions was on a character, how would I talk abt the structure or would i have to use a quote to then introduce structure
Again, I'm not sure if this idea relates specifically to the characters (maybe at a push you could argue how one setting, one main action, one short time window could represent how the characters are quite "fixed in their ways" at the start of the play), but if you wanted to talk about structure more broadly in relation to characters, you could talk about who does / doesn't change throughout the play, tracking this with a sequence of characters. Aristotle's unities would be more relevant to a question related to how Priestley creates tension: the short timespan and fixed setting arguably makes the play feel quite claustrophobic.
@@DystopiaJunkie oh okk thank u

Shakespeare chooses to present love as a complex emotion to contrast typical romantic love stories of the Elizabethan time and instead leave his audience questioning love near the end. The death of the lovers at the end of the play alongside the now forgiven families was intentional to suggest with love, confict arises and in order to overcome this conflict, a sacrifice is needed. my introduction, any feeback? 😊
My lit exam went so well, especially the poetry which can only be credited to you. Without you, I would have had 0 context for the Manhunt and probably wouldn’t have been able to secure the grade 9 I want. Thank you infinitely
This was so useful
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for all your eduqas poetry videos. They have been brilliant.
thank u!
In Year 10, I went from middle set to top set and I gotta be honest, it's been so difficult to fit in with all the english wizzes but you've helped me go from 5's and 6's to be promised an 8, maybe a 9. Thank you

Thank you so much DystopiaJunkie. You were a big help in poems and I am so happy and feel so blessed for watching your videos analysing 'The Manhunt' and 'Sonnet 43' in particular. 'The Manhunt' came up in the exam!
i want to say thank you soooo much!!! you really helped me with the poetry anthology. the question was on manhunt and the theme was relationships so i compared it to valentine and talked about violent imagery, them breaking traditional love and how they differ in rhyming structure!! without you these ideas would have never come up so thank you
